ARCHITECTS HOUSE
Accommodation: Sleeps
2-5
This conversion of a traditional
Halki house is as skilful and charming as one would expect from an
owner who is an architect. About three levels up from the harbour,
in the centre of the town, the house is very neatly arranged over
two floors, fitting a lot – three bedrooms, two bathrooms and a
good-sized kitchen – into a relatively small space. The entrance
from the path below is up a short flight of steps and across a
little terrace directly into the well-furnished, open plan
kitchen/living room, which is fitted with all mod cons including a
dishwasher. From this room a door leads into a small twin bedroom
with air-conditioning and TV, ideal for children, while a few steps
across the hallway is the master bedroom with a solid wooden
bedstead and built in wardrobe. This bedroom is also air-conditioned
and the two bedrooms share a good bathroom on the ground floor. A
staircase, not as steep as many in the Dodecanese, then leads to a
landing with a balustrade, a pretty second shower room (with
hairdryer), and a snug single bedroom whose balcony offers views to
the sea.
The downstairs terrace also enjoys a sea view and
is well furnished with wooden tables and canvas chairs. The
harbourside tavernas and shops are a couple of minutes’ walk away,
and Pondamos beach is ten minutes on foot in the other direction.
