Practise your Yoga on the peaceful island of Paxos.

Yoga in the Ionian
Practise your yoga in the peaceful surroundings of the Ionian islands in Greece. In May and June 2008 you can join a small group led by a fully qualified British yoga teacher and at the same time enjoy a relaxing holiday on the beautiful island of Paxos.

Who is it for?
The courses are primarily designed for those with previous yoga experience but beginners are welcome on certain courses. The size of the groups is kept quite small (about 15 people) so that each person can receive personal attention and be taught according to their ability.

Your Teachers
All our teachers are qualified in their disciplines. In 2008 the courses are led by Zoë Reason and Judith Jones, both of whom are qualified yoga teachers who have led yoga weeks on Paxos for us for many year. Zoë is a member of the Iyengar Yoga Association and an Introductory teacher. Judith is a Senior Iyengar Teacher (she helped teach and train Zoe) with many years experience, and a regular visitor to the Ramamani Institute in Pune, India.

About the island
Paxos is the quietest and least well-known of the Ionian islands. A short boat journey from Corfu, Paxos enjoys the same rich green landscape as its larger cousin. Of the three seaside villages which offer accommodation for visitors, Loggos, where the yoga weeks take place, is the prettiest. It is a peaceful old fishing village boasting a handful of tavernas, a few shops and a bakery.

Where you will stay
On Paxos, the courses will be held at a suitable location in the village of Loggos, and participants may stay at any of our self-catering accommodation there. Tavernas and cafes are just a few minutes’ walk from the accommodation, as are the nearest beaches.

The climate
Temperatures in May in the Ionian average between 70-75 degrees Fahrenheit (20-22 degrees Celsius) at midday, ideal for activities such as yoga, and the islands will be tranquil and uncrowded. In May the sea, at 63 degrees, will be warm enough for a refreshing swim. In early June the temperatures are a few degrees higher.

Holiday price and travel arrangements

Yoga week
The basic price of the holiday is £330 (beginners) or £355 (advanced) to include transfers (hydrofoil between Corfu to Paxos), self catering accommodation (in a twin room shared with one other person) and yoga classes. Depending on availability some rooms may be available for single occupancy (£100 supplement).

Getting there
Thomson and GB Air (a franchise partner of British Airways) fly to Corfu on Fridays. Flights tend to get more expensive the longer you leave it – early bookers get better deals.

See the following websites:
www.britishairways.com
www.thomsonfly.com

You should expect to pay from £150 - £200 for your return flight (but it will depend when you book).

Last year several students (and Zoë) travelled to Paxos by train and by sea The easiest (and most beautiful) route is via Venice:

Eurostar to Paris (Tuesday)
Overnight train from Paris to Venice
Day in Venice (Wednesday)
Overnight boat from Venice to Corfu (arrives in Corfu the following evening)
Night in Corfu Town (Thursday)
Join the rest of the group in Corfu and travel to Paxos

For more information and costs we found the following websites very helpful:
www.seat61.com
www.viamare.com
www.eurostar.com
www.raileurope.co.uk

Costs will vary depending on what class of travel you choose. Last year the round trip cost approximately £350 – which covered a couchette on the train and a cabin on the boat from Venice, but didn’t include hotel accommodation in Corfu or Venice.

Zoë will be happy to answer any questions you may have about whether this is the right yoga holiday for you (and which week you’d be happiest on). It is important that you discuss any medical conditions you may have with us before booking. You can reach Zoë by phone on 07956 616 934 or by email on zoereason@btinternet.com.
